From ESPN.com: For the second time this year, Phil Mickelson will skip the final tournament before a major championship, only this time it's not by choice.
After getting a second opinion about his wrist injury Monday in San Diego, Mickelson has decided against playing in the PGA Tour's Stanford St. Jude Championship this week in Memphis and will get a cortisone shot to relieve the pain in his left wrist. The specialist assured Mickelson he will be able to compete pain-free in next week's U.S. Open.
"The timing isn't the best because I really wanted to play at Memphis," said Mickelson, who didn't play the Houston Open before the Masters in April. "But the good news is there is no break or fracture. I have inflammation that can be relieved and I'm looking forward to playing the Open at 100 percent physically."
