Two candidates and a stand-in discussed healthcare issues at a Thursday-night forum hosted by Metrocare Physicians and LeBonheur Childrens Medical Center. Republican candidate Mark White seemed sincere and confident with traditional GOP talking points and displayed genuine concern discussing Memphis infant mortality rate, as well as the insurance woes of small business owners. Kevin Gallagher, the mild-mannered substitute for Democratic nominee Steve Cohen (away at a fund-raiser hosted by Cybill Shepherd) performed competently but lacked both the fire of a candidate and his bosss gift of gab. Jake Ford scored points with a polished, if overly mannered delivery. All in all, there were three distinct, cohesive views on healthcare issues in America.
