At The Orpheum tonight, Ballet Memphis Mars and Venus features three ballets: Concerto Barocco, Art of War, and Carmina Burana. Today kicks off the two-day Cat Show at Southwest Tennessee Community College s Sycamore View campus; I would have my cat out there but she just really doesn t get into the pageant thing, considering it utterly tasteless. The biggest party of the night by far is the Renaissance Gala at the Memphis Cook Convention Center, a black-tie affair to benefit LeMoyne-Owen College, featuring jazz greats Spyro Gyra and the Jazz Crusaders, Latimore, and Alex Bugnon. Tulsa rockabilly wildmen Brian Parton & The Nashville Rebels are at the Blue Monkey tonight. Clancy s Nub is at the P&H. The Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash are at Young Avenue Deli. And Every Mother s Nightmare is at Newby s.
