Local producer and studio/label owner Scott Bomar will have a showcase of his Electrophonic label at the Hi-Tone Café this weekend, pairing two of the city's finest (mostly) instrumental acts. The City Champs are a youngish three-piece jazz/soul combo carrying on the city's Booker T & the MGs tradition. They recently released their fine second album,The Set-Up.

Bomar's Bo-Keys (pictured) pair great Stax/Hi-era session players (Skip Pitts, Ben Cauley, Howard Grimes) with a younger generation of local session aces (Jim Spake, Marc Franklin, Bomar himself). The Bo-Keys have recently been in the studio working on a new album, the group's first since 2004's The Royal Sessions. The City Champs and the Bo-Keys play the Hi-Tone Café on Friday, December 17th. Showtime is 10 p.m. Admission is $8.
