The Cheat Sheet

Call it redemption: After Louisville knocked the Tigers out of the Conference USA basketball tournament in 2005, this year Memphis beat UAB to win the tournament -- for the first time in 20 years. The victory also earned them a number-one seed in the NCAA tourney -- for the first time ever. We're keeping our fingers crossed, guys. And, for that matter, our toes, and our legs, and well, if it can cross, we've crossed it.

Prosecutors in the Tennessee Waltz scandal have asked for a gag order on everybody -- including the FBI -- complaining that media coverage would keep the defendants from getting a fair trial. That's nice of them to be so concerned, but when do prosecutors worry about the defendants? Isn't that the job of their lawyers?

The senior pastor of a church in Hickory Hill warns his congregation that Three 6 Mafia -- the local rap group who just earned an Academy Award for their Hustle & Flow song, "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" -- are actually the minions of Satan. He delivered a sermon entitled "It's Getting Hard Out Here for a Seed," but it just doesn't have the same ring to it, if you ask us.

When a certain mayor declared, "We'll take I-69" -- according to a certain daily newspaper headline -- we knew he was referring to a future interstate that could go through his community. But are we the only ones childish enough to giggle at the double entendres people keep making about that highway? We are? Okay, just wanted to set that straight.
