1 University of Memphis football star DeAngelo Williams got picked by the Carolina Panthers in the first round of the NFL draft. Of course, some of you may remember that Charlotte was one of the cities chosen by the NFL for a brand-new team back when Memphis was so desperately crying, "Pick us! We want to play!" We're glad Number 20 didn't get snubbed as well, and the Tiger can now become a Panther.
2 A bandit who robbed a Save & Sac grocery in Horn Lake made his getaway in the only vehicle available -- a huge dump truck. The truck, unfortunately, had a company's name painted rather prominently on the doors, and all it took were a few phone calls from police to figure out which dump truck driver wasn't at work that day. Maybe the guy figured he would need the big rig to haul away all those bundles of cash.

For those of you out of the loop, the scantily clad bartenders dance on tables and do all sorts of sexy antics to entertain the customers. It's really no different from how most of us got our jobs at the Flyer.
4 The city of Germantown is considering hiring former Wonders director Glen Campbell to manage its glitzy performing-arts center. Memphis In May recently hired a fellow named Jack Daniels. Man, if you don't have a famous name in this town, you're out of luck.
