Former Shelby County Mayor Jim Rout has been hired as the new general manager of the Mid-South Fair. One of his first duties, we presume, will be renting hundreds of U-Haul trucks to carry all the fair's rides, tents, and exhibits to a new -- as yet undetermined -- location after developers take over the old site on Central. Don't forget all those fiddlesticks, funnel cakes, and corndogs!

On the very last play of the game, the University of Memphis Tigers lose to lowly Arkansas State. We knew it wouldn't be the same team after running back DeAngelo Williams left, but we never thought it would be as bad as this.

You know, we can hold all the nice festivals we want, but if we don't do something about the crime here, there, and everywhere in Memphis, most people are just going to stay home. And who can blame them?
