Police chiefs, pawnbrokers, and lobbyists all converged on Nashville last week for the latest installment in an ongoing feud over the constitutionality of thumbprinting people who use pawn shops to fence stolen merch ... er, receive loans on goods. Bob Corney, a lobbyist for the Pawnbrokers Association, was quoted as saying, This [thumbprint law] says that if you are poor and disadvantaged you are somehow suspect. Of course we were of the opinion that the thumbprint law actually said, If you are willing to take 20 bucks for a big-screen TV you are somehow suspect.
