Tigers Stun UAB With Last Minute Heroics, 79-78

The Memphis Tigers overcame a seven-point deficit with 1:22 left in the game to stifle UAB's upset attempt at sold-out Bartow Arena in Birmingham Saturday night.

Antonio Anderson and Chris Douglas-Roberts scored nine points, and the Tigers held UAB to one foul shot in the final minute. Douglas-Roberts' three-point play with 6.5 seconds left gave the Tigers a one-point lead. UAB made what would have been the game-winning shot as time expired, but officials ruled it was too late.

Many UAB fans thought their team had won and as the Tigers sprinted off the floor, they stormed the court and scuffles broke out.

Anderson had 27 points and Douglas-Roberts had 32 on a night when their teammates were ice-cold. Point guard Derrick Rose made only two of 13 shots. Joey Dorsey and Robert Dozier scored a total of one point between them. But somehow Memphis pulled it out in the end and lives to retain its number one ranking for another week.
