WAR GAMES

In a wire article titled "When War Is Play ," writer Marlon Manuel notes that the recent terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C., have shown that war is different now, and "then again, so is the way kids play war." The article quoted Craig Phillips, president of Parris Manufacturing, a Tennessee company located two hours east of Memphis that specializes in making toy games. "They're not doing it as much as they used to," Phillips said of children playing war with toy guns. "It's not the '50s or the '60s." Seeing the decline in interest in toy guns, Parris began to produce bunk beds. After the recent tragedies, however, and the resulting nervousness about tall structures, it is unknown whether or not Parris will switch to the manufacture of less vertically oriented single beds.
