There's something depressing about planning a wedding reception. In the months and weeks leading up to the blessed event, you'll be told by various vendors, friends, and family members that your wedding day is the one and only perfect day you'll ever have in your entire life and even that one fleeting chance at harmony can be totally ruined if you don't suck it up and spend eight month's worth of your hard-earned income to ensure that the napkins are personalized and the band can play "Purple Rain." So why not avoid all the stress, elope immediately, and then attend the "Wedding Crashers" party on Saturday at the Jay Etkin Art Gallery?
"Wedding Crashers," which benefits the Mid-South chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, is a typical wedding reception featuring cake, cocktails, and people in formalwear dancing to embarrassing '80s music. There will also be door prizes, the inevitable silent auction, gift certificates, and more.
Tickets are $50 and must be purchased in advance. Compared to the $28,000 price tag attached to the average American wedding, that's a steal.
"Wedding Crashers," Saturday, March 22nd, 7-11 p.m., at Jay Etkin Gallery. $50. For additional information, call 825-1159.
